An armored personnel carrier (APC) patrol squad was ambushed by suspected armed bandits in Katsina State Kankara Local Government Area, resulting in at least one police officer’s death and another’s injuries.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama was informed by sources that the event happened on Thursday, June 19 at approximately 12:30 p.m.

while the police were conducting a farm clearance operation close to Government Science Secondary School on the Kankara–Kafi Road.

A gunfight broke out as the bandits unexpectedly started shooting at the patrol squad, according to a police source.

Inspector Yahaya Bello suffered fatal injuries as a result of the encounter, and a medical professional from the General Hospital Kankara subsequently verified his death.

A second officer, ASP Sani Suleiman, who was assigned to 27 PMF Katsina, was shot and is presently being treated at the same hospital.

According to a source, he is doing well.
