Four people were killed and twenty one injured after an alleged improvised explosive device (IED) exploded along the Katarko Goniri Road in Yobe State’s Gujba Local Government Area on Friday.

The victims, who were primarily from the Gotala Community, were travelling to the well-known Buniyadi market when the suspected IED was trodden on by their car.

Channels TV saw during a visit to Damaturu Specialist Hospital that the bodies of the four people killed in the explosion had been taken home for burial, while the others were being treated at Yobe State University Teaching Hospital Damaturu and the specialist hospital, respectively.

Situated on the outskirts of the Sambisa forest, where the alleged Boko haram militants have been active for the past 15 years, is the Gotala hamlet.

According to a another source, some military vehicles and vigilantes ran over the buried IED on Friday along the same route, killing or injuring people.

The military has not yet released a press statement as of the time this article was filled up.

Because the lives of the communities and the military formation at Goniri are in grave danger, the relatives of the victims who were questioned at the hospitals urged the Yobe State Government to immediately rebuild the crumbling road in order to stop the insurgents actions.
